UN-Habitat in Spain celebrates the World Cities Day in Madrid
30th of October, Madrid, Spain; UN-Habitat kicks off the World Cities Day one day early this year in order to share information on the process towards Habitat III and the new Urban Agenda, as well as the last-minute details on the European Urban Agenda.
In the light of the III UN Conference on Housing and Sustainable Development in Quito, Habitat III, just being one year away, the UN-Habitat Office in Spain, together with the Ministry of Development and the Spanish Federation for Municipalities and Provinces (FEMP) came together in a forum to inform about and discuss the HIII Conference and how this opens up the possibility to move forward with and improve the New Urban Agenda for the European Union.
Represented among the speakers was Mrs. Rosa Suriņach from the Habitat III Secretariat, informing about the Conference; Mr. Pedro Campos Ponce, European Advisor of Urban Politics from the Dutch Government, speaking on behalf of the New Urban Agenda of the European Union and Mr. Alfonso Vergara, President of the Metrópoli Foundation, introducing the idea of a possible New Urban Agenda for Spain.
More than a hundred participants from national and local governments, academia, urban institutions and organizations attended the meeting.
